Goal
This project has been one of my favorites that I have completed so far. I worked with Nick Harris, the head of Long Wing Birds, a company based on sharing knowledge and experiences relating to birds of prey. He came to my team and I with a website that was incomplete. There was way to direct traffic, referrals or book presentations with the company. Our goal was to create a website that effectively communicates the quality and value of the presentations that Nick puts together. Also to create clear ways for potential customers to communicate with Nick as well a clear ability to schedule Nic for various events. This included creating an inviting aesthetic and lots of information about his birds.
Research
To get the ball rolling on this project, we held a meeting with Nick and discovered what the scope of the project was and what his goals were. We received key information about his presentations and company that would be crucial to the contents of the site. After we met with Nick, we researched competitor companies within Utah to see what they were doing with their media.
We brainstormed mood boards, color schemes, pictures of wildlife and fonts that all matched the aesthetic of Nick's brand. We came up with a style guide that we would use throughout the design process based on the colors of one of his Peregrine falcons.
Next Steps
Once we gathered the necessary research, we started creating grey comps and brainstorming ideas for the layout of the website. We ultimately decided to do a one page site that the user could scroll down and find all the necessary information about the presentations but also gave Nick the opportunity to create extension pages if he wanted to in the future.
We started creating mockups of the site with assets and the color scheme we chose. We implemented fonts and different features such as a media grid with pictures of his birds that included their names and species. We traveled to his sanctuary and took new pictures of the birds so that they would be consistent and professional looking. It was an amazing experience being able to meet and photograph all his birds.
Final Site
Once we had all the appropriate assets and mockups ready, we started using Wix to build the final site. We implemented a scheduling system for Nick that would allow his customers to book him online which was one of the goals at the beginning of this project.
I love how the final site turned out and very happy with Nick's reaction to it. Within the first day of the site being live, he already had a booking through the system we implemented. He was super pleased with the turn out and so were we. I am really happy I got to learn how to use Wix and Figma during the duration of this project. I learned the importance of communication with the stakeholder as well as my team members. I had such an awesome experience with this project and can't wait to see where Long Wing Birds ends up next!
